What’s worth knowing in Denver this week February 24th – March 1st, 2017? Where to catch Oscar favorites, celebrate Mardi Gras locally, and get cozy with a sloth.
I don’t know what I’ll be doing this weekend but I do know where I’ll be on Monday. The one city that rivals Denver for my undying loyalty is Charleston, so I couldn’t be more geeked about the opening of LOW Country in LoHi. I once enjoyed a birthday dinner at the original in Steamboat Springs, and that was despite the fact that I ate my shrimp and grits standing up while bouncing an unhappy two-month-old. I can’t wait to have this little gem practically around the corner. Also, that now 18-month-old kiddo is not invited.
That’s certainly not the only southern fix you can get here in Denver. With Fat Tuesday just around the corner, there’s Mardi Gras fun to be had and plenty of local spots to help you feel a little bit closer to NoLa. Here’s how and where to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Mile High City. (And, if you’re gluten-free, don’t despair…this local spot has King Cakes just for you!) Once you’re all beignet’d out, get a different doughnut fix at one of these 12 Denver-area essential doughnut spots.)
Denver Restaurant Week starts tonight! It’s the biggest one yet with 275 participating restaurants. If you’re not feeling the Restaurant Week crowds, Eater rounded up 30 local restaurants that are keeping it business as usual.
The Oscars are this weekend. I’ve never been one for awards show but I do enjoy a good film…check out these Denver theaters to catch the Oscar-nominated movies this week.
One thing I love more than a local business is a local business that really works to have an impact on the community. This Denver designer and founder of Create Karma clothing is giving away beanies to the homeless…one for every article of clothing sold. He’d also love some help with distributing them, and not just here in Denver.
Last chance to get a cheese board at LoHi’s Eat + Drink will be this Sunday. After five years, the artisan cafe and market will close. Also closing, although temporarily, is Los Parceros, Denver’s only Colombian restaurant.
Downtown Denver Partnership is considering a more permanent ice-skating-rink-turns-summer-beer-garden for Skyline Park.
The RTD R-Line began service today to Aurora, Denver and Lone Tree. Ride for free today until 9pm.
What are you up to this weekend? It’s Sloth Weekend at the Denver Aquarium. Five Points Stomp sounds like a blast. Or peruse the 21 best events this week per Westword. Plus, here are some fun options with the kiddos.
Enjoy the weekend!
