December in Denver has no shortage of holiday markets, light celebrations, Santa sightings and New Year’s events. Here are a few more things to do in Denver in December 2017…

Every year I put together a little December bucket list of wintery, holiday-ish things I want to do with my kids. It usually includes activities like riding the Polar Express, taking the kids to see Santa, ice skating downtown, and going to see the Blossoms of Light. And, then, without fail, I beat myself up because the Polar Express always sells out in fall before I even think about ordering tickets. And my kids have yet to sit on Santa’s lap. Ever. And, when it comes down to it, I remember that ice skating means I’m just going to end up with a cold, bruised bum.

We do always make it to see Blossoms of Light, though. And, when we get there, after circling the parking structure for 30 minutes with two crabby kids and two increasingly grumpy adults, we remember that last year we swore we’d never again wait until the last Saturday to visit. (Sigh.)

Don’t get me wrong. I actually do really love this time of year…the holiday lights and frosty weather, the pop-up markets and festive music. And I love all the events that we have to choose from here in Denver…because we’re really very lucky to have so many choices of fun things to do.

But I also have to remind myself that we don’t actually have to choose to attend all the events. Sometimes it’s nice to just pick one or two activities and let the rest go. Because not everyone is meant to be on ice skates. And, most young kids find Santa to be downright terrifying up close, anyway. (Right?)

So, this year I’m going to stop kicking myself that I once again forgot to order the Polar Express tickets back in September, and focus on the beautiful displays at Blossoms of Light, which I will make it a priority to go see. On a Tuesday.
