Monthly Denversions: Things to Do in Denver in November 2017

November in Denver means Denver Film Festival, Denver Arts Week, Opening Ski Days, and the start of holiday shopping. And, a few more fun things to do in Denver in November…

As I type this I’ve just put two sugar-exhausted kiddos to bed after a night of running around the neighborhood after dark, which can only signal the beginning of November…and all of the holiday planning that goes with it.

And, as the holiday shopping season kicks into gear, I’m so excited to share a project I’ve been working on for a while. (Spoiler alert: shameless plug ahead.) For the last year I’ve been working closely with Nicole Sullivan (of BookBar) and Heather Duncan (of Tattered Cover Book Store) to launch Local First Colorado, a statewide nonprofit organization devoted to raising awareness about the importance of supporting our local businesses.

Our first item of business is Local First Colorado Week, which will kick off on Small Business Saturday (November 25) and run through December 2. We’re asking Coloradans to take the Local First pledge…to re-think and shift daily habits by trying a local business first before placing that online order or walking into that big-box store.

We have so many amazing local businesses here in Denver (like these Denver gift shops or these Denver clothing boutiques or, heck, any of the businesses listed in this Denver shopping directory) as well as throughout the entire state. Shifting a little of our spending money to our local businesses is a great way to invest in our local economies while enjoying a shopping experience that can’t be replicated by a corporation.

Please visit www.localfirstcolorado.org to take the Local First Pledge this holiday shopping season and then follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.to learn about more local businesses you’re going to want to visit.

Okay, plug over. But it won’t be the last time you hear about this from me!
